Are you isolated by your limited English? At Southside Presbyterian, we want to help equip you with better language skills and local cultural knowledge help you make deeper, more meaningful connections within the wider community to help with better employment, deeper friendships and a greater sense of belonging in your adopted home.

Our Wednesday morning English classes are a great way to improve your English and make new friends in Brisbane.  You are welcome to come to class any Wednesday during school terms. You do not need to prepare anything – we will register you when you arrive and the class is free. It is open to all adult students wanting to learn English. We have 3 classes – advanced, intermediate and beginner. You can join whichever class you are comfortable in, and you can change classes any time you like. We have a lesson, then a short break for morning tea, then small conversation groups.

We focus on speaking, and also love teaching you about the local culture and things happening in Brisbane. We do our best to make your English learning enjoyable and effective.

Our teachers and helpers are all volunteers from Southside Presbyterian church. All teachers have done some ESL training, as have most of our helpers as well.

We generally don’t have Bible content in our lessons, although we usually take a few minutes to explain the meaning of Easter and Christmas at those times of year, as students often ask. There are also simple English Bible Studies available for those who are interested, as well as other regular church activities. Please ask any of our helpers for more information.

New students – please try to arrive about 9.00 am so we can complete your registration before class starts at 9.15 am.  The class finishes at about 11.15 am.
